The Smiling Eyes Have Hit the Scene!

The Smiling Eyes may just live in an alternate universe where time stopped around 1972. This CD is chock full of catchy classics that have never been heard in this universe before- all of which could fit right into the sound coming out of an AM car radio in pop-rock’s golden era of ’65 to ’71!

Todd Oliver is the man behind The Smiling Eyes. Being equally at home on guitar or a *real* Hammond B3 is impressive enough, but his vocal and harmony arrangements practically define the term ‘wall of sound’!

Brian Duvall handles the skins- always in the pocket, a true master of finding the perfect beat to fit the song.

Leatherwood Studio’s own Mike Donoho himself lays down that big guitar sound he’s legendary for- king of the jangly hook.

Produced by Donoho using vintage equipment and analog recording gear, these tracks are as sonically exciting as the songs themselves!

Go get out your bell bottoms and headbands, fire up some incense, and take a trip with The Smiling Eyes…

This retro treasure is remarkably affordable, too! $10 (+s&h to your locale) for the CD, $8 for the 320k mp3s.

The Album That Never Was… Now Is!

Leatherwood Studios is excited to announce the release of Sons of Liberty’s second album, Modern Age! Recorded circa ’86-’88, this has been hidden away the the vaults… until today!

The follow up to ‘In Your World’, ‘Modern Age’ sees Steve, Pat, Ronnie and Bret joined by Jack Knoeber, completing the classic lineup that would bring a new era of original rock to Topeka. Taking the sound and message brought to life on their first release, ‘Modern Age’ brings it into laser focus, showing the band at it’s best.

For examples of the tunes go to The Leatherwood Store, where the clips are playable from your browser. The Leatherwood Store

Leatherwood Studio CDs & Mp3s Are Now Here!

Three of Leatherwood Studios most important releases from the early eighties are finally available on gloriously obsolete CD or fantastically modern mp3! All digitally transferred and remixed from the original master tapes and ready to be sold direct to lucky you!

Let’s break it down:

This was Leatherwood Studio’s first studio project back in 1981. Pressed onto flexi-disc, it was included in an issue of the legendary fanzine ‘Talk Talk’. This remastered version includes a never released tune that was too rude for the flexi! Did Topeka Kansas know how to rock? Why yes, yes it did!

*The Tunes*

The Tune’s four song EP from 1982 is a hot collector’s item now, and this CD includes the original vinyl tracks, as well as six more power pop gems recorded in 1981! These mixes are substantially cleaner than the 2013 vinyl re-release. Warning: these songs are insanely catchy!

*Psychic Archie*

Includes all the songs from the two Psychic Archie cassettes released between ’83 and ’85. Of course, it also includes an unreleased song from back in the day! Wow! What happens when you lock members of The Tunes and Abuse in a room with a bong? Psychic Archie happens, baby!

And just how much do these shiny pieces of history cost?

The Tunes…………….US$10

Psychic Archie……….US$10

All Three………………US$25

Plus whatever S&H costs for your region of the world.

All CD sales also include digital downloads so the Leatherwood party can continue in your earbuds!

*But wait, there’s more!*

If you want to skip the CDs and go pure digital we can do that too, and it’s even cheaper! Aren’t computers great? (Encoded at 320k for full-bodied flavor)

The Tunes…………….US$8

Psychic Archie……….US$8

Documentary about The Outhouse

Brad Norman is creating a fantastic documentary about The Outhouse, an amazing and unlikely band venue just outside of Lawrence, Ks. Psychic Archie’s footage from a January ’86 gig at The Outhouse is being included in this project, and the band couldn’t be prouder!

Here’s the link to the doc’s homepage, check it out. It was really a one-of-a-kind place, and deserves to be remembered.
